The Russian Army has shot dead 28 Romani people in the occupied territories of Ukraine, claiming they poisoned a company of Russian soldiers with vodka. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has issued a report on the incident, based on an intercepted telephone conversation of a Russian soldier.

In the intercepted call, the Russian soldier tells his wife about the injustices underway in the territories occupied by Russia. “Do you know what kind of chaos is happening in the towns here? The Military Police recently shot dead 28 gypsies, put them up against the wall and shot them because they gave vodka to our Army and poisoned an entire company,” the soldier says.

The Russian Army has added that of a 96-member company, less than 50 survived consuming the vodka. Julian Kondur of the Chirikli organization in Ukraine has confirmed the case to news server Romea.cz.

“We learned of this case from Ukrainian intelligence, which published the information. For the time being, however, it is unclear in which occupied region it happened,” Kondur told Romea.cz.

Chirikli thoroughly condemns such actions by the Russian occupiers and insists that this mass murder of civilians in the temporarily occupied territory must be investigated. “The Russian occupiers intentionally destroy everything related to Ukraine. They are especially murdering Ukrainians of different ethnic and national origins,” reads a statement by the organization, which believes this incident is a hate crime.

“This murder is a genuine tragedy for the Romani community. We are expressing our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the murdered, and we are also asking those who witnessed this tragedy to come forward. The culprit must be convicted and punished,” Chirikli, a Romani organization in Ukraine, has said in a statement.
