Exclusive interview with People in Need mission head in Syria and Turkey: The situation is desperate, we're delivering aid to the Romani families affected by the earthquake too
Everybody is following the ongoing situation in those parts of Syria and Turkey that have been afflicted by the destructive earthquake that began on 6 February. Are the Romani people living in the affected areas receiving aid?
Why isn’t aid flowing to Syria the same way it is flowing to Turkey? How can we assist people in both countries, what do they need?
Wail Khazal works as head of mission for People in Need directly in northwest Syria and Turkey. That NGO has raised the most money in the Czech Republic and is targeting its aid efforts in Syria, which is afflicted by a cholera epidemic and the ongoing war in addition to the earthquake.
The rescue work is slowly winding down and the priorities are shifting to providing housing, heating, and rebuilding houses, infrastructure and schools. Khazal made time for interviewer Jarmila Balážová despite the complex situation he is dealing with in both countries; the interview is subtitled in English.
