EU Fundamental Rights Agency to publish results of research with Roma and Travellers in six EU Member States
The EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) says that it has been performing research with more than 5 000 Romani people and Travellers in Belgium, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom, continuing its work on the issue of the inclusion of Roma and accumulating relevant, reliable data regarding both Romani and Traveller communities by means of its extensive surveys conducted in close collaboration and consultation with such communities. The main phase of this research project involved conducting interviews with the target group in the field.
The work began in November 2018 and was anticipated to close in April 2019; at the local level it is performed by IPSOS, an international research company, and its partners in each country. While it was originally anticipated that the first findings would be available in December 2019, the FRA website now says they will be made available in April 2020.
FRA’s mission is to provide independent, professional advice that can be used by both domestic and EU bodies with decision-making powers. Its work is meant to contribute to discussions, legislation and policies in the area of fundamental rights being based on real situations and sound data.
