LIVE ONLINE BROADCAST: Prague 1 conference on homelessness
The Municipal Department of Prague 1 is actively addressing the problem of homelessness on its territory. On Monday, 18 December 2023 it is holding a conference called "Prague 1 and Homeless People" (Praha 1 a občané bez přístřeší).
This complex problem requires a comprehensive solution, including the prevention of homelessness and treatment for those traumatized by it. The aim of the conference is to find new partners, perspectives and possibilities for collaboration in this field.
ROMEA TV will broadcast the conference live online at 9:30 AM. “The number of homeless people in need on the territory of Prague 1 is increasing and we want to address this situation. At the conference we plan to find new perspectives and possibilities for doing so as well as partners for cooperation,” explains Ivana Antalová, the Prague 1 municipal councillor for Accessibility and Social Issues.

Experts and representatives from ministries, other cities and other municipal departments have been invited by Prague 1 to the conference on homelessness. “Examples of good practice and innovative opportunities for addressing this issue will be presented at the conference from other cities such as Ostrava or Brno. Guests from Prague 1’s partner city, Vienna, will also present on how they have managed to annually reduce the number of homeless persons there, they will introduce their programs and the tools they use to address this,” Antalová said.
“We intentionally decided to hold our conference at the Na Františku Hospital, a location where homeless people with health problems frequently end up. We are striving to connect social services with health care,” Antalová described.
In addition to discussing existing obstacles and problems when it comes to homeless peoples’ integration and presenting new ways to address their situations, the conference will make it possible for experts and institutions to connect and coordinate their work going forward. The conference will close by presenting the specific steps the Municipal Department of Prague 1 will take in this area in 2024.
