Stanislava Klabouchová, dancer and nurse in the Czech Republic: "Some people are amazed to see a Romani woman in traumatology, others don't believe I'm Romani."
She began with ballet, continued with modern dance, and today is a successful performer of Oriental dance as part of the Matahari Group, which has just celebrated its 15th birthday. However, as she herself says, none of that was easy.
Her mother, who is also a nurse, insisted Stanislava Klabouchová study in addition to her performing. “She told me that even if I love culture and dance, it is better to graduate from a school. There will always be people here who fall ill. Nurses will always be necessary,” she describes her path, which led not just to dance stages, but also to the Traumatology Department at the General Teaching Hospital (Všeobecné fakultní nemocnice) in Prague, where she has worked for more than 20 years.
Klabouchová has succeeded both as a health care worker and as a dancer. She even performed with her group in an American production of a dance show with dancers from all over the world, including the world-famous Jillina Carlano, which she considers the high point of her career to date.
The Matahari Group has also performed in Germany at the Total Orient Festival or in the Czech town of Náchod, where the group won First Prize for Oriental Fusion. This year you can see the group at the Mana Theater in Prague’s Vršovice quarter on 4 November at 18:30 for their 15th anniversary show.
