National Security Council reviews report on extremism in the Czech Republic for 2024

The National Security Council (Bezpečnostní rada státu - BRS) has reviewed the report on extremism and prejudicial hatred on Czech territory for 2024 and has heard information regarding the available forces and resources for guaranteeing internal security and public order in the Czech Republic. The Office of the Government issued a press release after the morning session on 30 April.
The BRS also approved a proposal to award the BRS Prize for a significant contribution to the field of security policy in the Czech Republic for this year. The extremism report is published by the Interior Ministry, usually by the end of the first half of each year.
That report was noted by the BRS at its meeting on Wednesday, as was an assessment of the fulfillment of the Action Plan to Combat Extremism for the last two years, as well as the future assessment of the Action Plan to Combat Extremism and Prejudiced Hatred for 2025 and 2026. The BRS also reviewed the Bivoj project, an architectural and strategic solution designed by the National Office for Cybernetic and Information Security.
A year ago, the Office of the Government announced the Bivoj project was the state’s response to rising security threats, strengthening cybersecurity at the ministries and other offices and offering a unified security solution for information system operations. According to the Office of the Government, the BRS expressed agreement with a draft program for Strategic Support for Security Research Development in the Czech Republic 2026-2031 and heard information about the forces and resources ready to guarantee internal security and public order in the Czech Republic.
That information concerned developments since the last discussion of readiness at the BRS in April 2024. BRS members took note of the establishment of budget lines to finance the involvement of Czech citizens in the civil structures of the European Union and other international governmental organizations in the draft budget for 2026 and beyond.
The BRS was informed of an assessment of the fulfillment of the Czech Republic’s 2023 Security Strategy, an assessment of airborne firefighters’ services last year, and of the acquisition of helicopters for airborne firefighting. The BRS is the permanent Government body coordinating the issue of security.
Members of the BRS are the Prime Minister and other cabinet members as the Government decides to involve them. Its regular meetings are held at least once a quarter; the previous meeting was in January.
