On Monday, 27 May at 14:30 CET a discussion will be held on the subject of the education of Romani people entitled "Together for the Future of Romani Youth" in Prague's Přítomnost cinema as part of the 26th annual KHAMORO Romani festival. The event is co-organized by the ROMEA organization and will be broadcast live online by ROMEA TV here: https://www.facebook.com/events/969278784982848/?ref=newsfeed.
The discussion will focus on how the Czech school system has developed in relation to Romani pupils since the transition to democracy and a market economy in 1989 and on opportunities for Romani youth to transition from the ninth grade into secondary school today. Experts, representatives of scholarship programs for Romani students, and Romani graduates of secondary schools and universities will speak about their motivation to study, support systems for the transition and auxiliary mechanisms of support.
Speakers will include Czech Government Commissioner for Roma Minority Affairs Lucie Fuková, educator Marian Dancso, Jindra Marešová of the Albatros Foundation, Anna Brychtová of the Czech Education Ministry, and other guests such as Yechiel Bar-Chaim, a consultant to Bader Philanthropies. The ROMEA organization will present its new campaign created by Romani student youth, and Štefan Balog will familiarize those attending with the organization’s scholarship program.
The discussion will be augmented by the stories of Romani scholarship recipients.
