Detectives in the Czech Republic are looking for the people who recently publicized a banner featuring a racist verbal assault on Glen Kamara of the Glasgow Rangers football team. They are suspected of committing felony defamation of an ethnic, national or racial group and face up to three years in prison if convicted.

Jan Daněk, spokesperson for the police in Prague, posted the announcement to the Czech Police website yesterday. The incident happened at the end of March.

According to Daněk, the banner read, in English, “Kamara – just a n****r”. “Detectives have secured video footage taken prior to the banner being photographed and published, the men whom we need to speak with were captured on film,” the spokesperson said.

Anybody who recognizes any of the people in the photograph are asked to call number 158 in the Czech Republic. According to the Czech Police, it has taken a great deal of time to investigate the case.

The detectives are collaborating with their counterparts abroad. Ondřej Kúdela, who plays for the Slavia Prague football team, insulted Kamara, the Black Finnish midfielder who plays for the Finnish national team and the Rangers, during a match in Glasgow and was banned from play for the next 10 matches by UEFA.

Kúdela whispered something to Kamara on the field, after which Kamara then accused Kúdela of having called him a monkey. Kúdela admitted to using vulgarities when castigating Kamara but denies having used an insult that was racist.
