Juraj Makula on "Ten Minutes Plus": I want to join the Czech Police and then go into politics
He grew up on the Mojžír housing estate in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic and one thing has been clear to him since childhood. Juraj Makula wants to become a police officer.
After graduating from high school he enrolled in college where he is currently in his third year of studying criminology and forensics. Once he graduates he wants to join the special forces unit and then the rapid deployment unit of the police.
“My parents weren’t entirely enthusiastic because it’s a high-risk profession. It’s not just paper-pushing in an office, someitmes you might get shot at, especially during interventions. I want to enjoy the adrenaline, the stress and the action,” 23-year-old Makula says in his “Ten Minutes Plus” interview.
Juraj says his parents were his role models and have supported both him and his younger siblings with their studies. His sister is matriculating at university this year and his younger brother is in high school.
“We had a firm foundation at home. Thanks to that, we’re successful and we can achieve anything,” said Makula, who also touched on more sensitive subjects such as the current situation at the Mojžíř housing estate, where according to him things used to be absolutely different.
“It was completely different. There were climbing frames for the children and a playground. People used to go out for walks and laugh at themselves. It was like a village. Over time, though, different people began to retreat there, mainly from eastern Slovakia. The old-timers began to move out and now the housing estate lives a life of its own. It’s a closed 13th precinct,” Makula said.
What are Makula’s political ambitions? What would he change about the Mojžíř housing estate if it were up to him?
