International Romani Day 2025 - when and where celebrations of Romani identity and pride will be held in the Czech Republic
8 April, International Romani Day, is an annual occasion to celebrate Romani culture, identity and pride. In 2025 there are celebrations underway across the whole Czech Republic - in Brno, Hradec Králové, Ostrava, Prague, Tanvald, Vrchlabí and elsewhere.
The community meetings, concerts, cultural events and workshops started on 4 April and will run until 26 April. The celebrations started on 4 April in Prague, when the ARA ART organization kicked things off in the Lucerna Music Bar with a concert for its Prague celebration program called FutuRoma.
Ondřej Gizman, Jr. and Tomáš Botló performed on that occasion. Over the next few days, FutuRoma will also feature a conference on “Roma in the Church”, an exhibition by Maxim Muchow, and a gala evening at the New Stage of the National Theater in Prague.
Brno is joining on 6 April with cultural events in the Káznice venue, offering workshops on boxing, cooking, dancing, and the Romani language. That will be followed over the days to come by a community program produced by the DROM organization, a pride march, an exhibition, and a gala evening in collaboration with the Museum of Romani Culture.
In Jablonec nad Nisou, Nový Bor, Nový Jičín, Šternberk, Tanvald and throughout the Liberec Region there are workshops, lectures, readings, concerts and exhibitions planned, many of them produced by Romany Art Workshop or associations such as Společně–Jekhetane [Together].
