Paľo Habera, a popular singer from Slovakia who lives in the Czech Republic, has shared a photograph of himself on Instagram expressing the pride he feels over a group of Romani workers who for several years have been commuting to Bohemia for work from Slovakia. "When a bunch of Slovaks turn up in front of your house to dig up the street and say: 'Boss, will you take a photo with us?' Yes, I will," Habera posted.

The singer noted that the men, who are all from the same village, Rudňany, have been commuting to Bohemia for work for several years now. They spend three weeks in Bohemia and then return home to Slovakia for a week.

Habera also mentioned that he has been following how hard the men work and expressed his pride over the fact that “this bunch are giving us [Slovaks] a good name here.” At the same time, he warned those who might want to comment in response against using insulting language, stressing that while he himself can take a certain degree of crudity, he will uncompromisingly block anybody who wants to insult the people about whom he is posting.

The post has been noticed by MEP Peter Pollák, who is also of Romani origin from Slovakia, and he has expressed his appreciation for Habera. “He has shown all of Slovakia and Czechia that we are not the problem, we are a potential. He has shown that Romani people are smart and hardworking,” Pollák posted to Facebook.
