Czech Police have bank and phone data showing somebody from Romani celebrity's team not only ordered the "flour attack" against him on the red carpet, but paid for it
A broadcast this morning on CNN Prima News featured Romani singer Jan Bendig being asked on live television about new facts provided by a police resolution about the "flour attack" incident on the red carpet against him last year. According to the resolution, Bendig not only ordered the attack during the popular music awards ceremony called the Czech Nightingale (Český slavík), but there is also evidence that he paid for it.
News server Romea.cz has also seen the police resolution. The investigation of the attack has been shelved and the alleged perpetrator will not be prosecuted.
Bendig was assaulted on 24 November 2023 at the Fórum Karlín venue in Prague by an allegedly unknown man who poured a bag of flour over his head. At the time the singer received widespread support from his colleagues in the entertainment industry and from the public.
The police, however, are of the opinion that the entire scandal was prearranged, which they support with evidence from a bank account, phone conversations, and video footage. Their resolution notes specific transactions and phone connections which police say prove the assailant and somebody on the side of the singer collaborated on staging the incident.
Bendig has repeatedly denied any such agreement or contact. “What is also apparent from the bank account, among other matters, is a transaction when [redacted] was deposited to the account [redacted] by ATM, when a deposit to the account [redacted] was made by ATM, and when a deposit to the account [redacted] was made by ATM, where these deposits correspond to the testimony of [redacted] for the official record on providing an explanation per Section 158 paragrah 6 of the Criminal Code,” the police resolution states.
“When assessing the specific matter under investigation in terms of criminal law, given the interrogations of the persons [redacted] undertaken by the investigation into this matter, the assessment of information provided subject to bank secrecy, and the assessment of the information on the telecommunications realized, OET police unit 1 has come to the conclusion that this specific incident is not one of disorderly conduct, notwithstanding that it did happen that [redacted], on 24 November 2023 at 19:02 in front of the building of the Fórum Karlín on Pernerova Street in Prague 8 – Karlín, freely approached the singer [redacted], who had just arrived to open the announcement of the Czech Nightingale 2023 survey results, and then poured a bag of flour on him, doing so in a publicly accessible location in the presence of the persons assembled. [Redacted] did so on the basis of mutual agreement and with the prior consent of singer [redacted],” reads the resolution.
Promotion of a new video becomes an unpleasant interview
Bendig had visited the “New Day” program of CNN Prima News to promote his most recent video “Bejbyride”, but after several minutes he began to receive very unpleasant questions from both the female and the male moderators. “The incident where that person poured flour on you as a racist gesture was prearranged, that’s what the police statement literally says. Don’t you feel you should say something more about this, that you should reveal what actually happened, because the police statement is absolutely clear and against you, Honzo,” the male moderator suggestively asked the singer, who continued to insist that he never agreed to be attacked and did not prearrange the incident.
“I’m giving my statement. I’ve said several times that I never planned anything, never communicated with him, and I stand by that, I don’t have anything else to say, why should I keep discussing this?” the singer responded to the constantly repeated questions.
The document from the police clearly describes that phone conversations were held with the perpetrator ahead of the attack – one lasted about two minutes, the next lasted seven. When asked whether it was Bendig himself or maybe his manager who spoke with the assailant, the singer was unable to answer.
Bendig continued to repeat that he himself never spoke with anybody involved ahead of the incident. The interview then ended in a very tense atmosphere, when Bendig himself decided to finish it.
“I will continue to fight for my truth and I am ending this interview,” a visibly upset Bendig said. “No, ideally we will end this interview and we’re doing so right now,” responded moderator Sabina Dračková.
“The aim wasn’t to stitch him up, but to ask about the information from the police, it is clearly written in that document that they agreed, that there is even evidence of bank deposits,” Dračková later told the tabloid Expres.cz. The incident transpired ahead of the Czech Nightingale music awards outside of the Fórum Karlín venue on 24 November 2023.
Bendig was assaulted by a man whose identity was allegedly unknown to him at the time who poured a bag of flour over him. The Czech Police announced on 21 February 2024 that the incident was staged and therefore was not a crime.
On the contrary, according to the investigation, two participants in the incident were said to have lied when providing their explanations to police. However, the police have not stated whether the alleged assailant was one of the participants who lied, or whether the participants were Jan Bendig and his manager, Lukáš Rejmon.
