Czech MP holds hate rally with nooses for "traitors" warning of "hordes of horny blacks"
A demonstration against immigration and quotas and in favor of the Czech Republic leaving the European Union was held this afternoon on Prague’s Wenceslas Square, attended by approximately 700 people. After the opening remarks, protesters headed for the Office of the Government, ending the protest three hours later at around 20:00 CET.
Roughly 20 counter-protesters also made it to Wenceslas Square and the two sides were kept apart by riot police. Tomáš Hulan, spokesperson for the Prague Police, told the Czech News Agency that an estimated 750 people total attended.
Hulan said officers arrested several people in connection with the demonstration but did not give precise numbers. Demonstrators shouted slogans such as "Bohemia for the Czechs", "We are the nation" and "This is our home" as they marched to the Office of the Government.
Those participating also warned against "hordes of horny blacks" and wielded full-scale mockups of more than one gallows, inscribed "For Treason". The demonstrators believe that some Czech politicians have committed treason already.
They frequently mentioned the name of Czech PM Bohuslav Sobotka (Czech Social Democratic Party – ČSSD) in particular, who last week attended negotiations at the Council of the EU on quotas for accepting refugees. "Sobotka go home" the mob chanted at one point.
Czech MP Tomio Okamura from the "Freedom and Direct Democracy" (Svoboda a přímá demokracie – SPD) movement, which convened the event, gave a speech at the bottom of Wenceslas Square, as did the anti-Semite Adam B. Bartoš and singer Aleš Brichta. They called for closing the country’s borders, leaving the EU, and for the Government to resign, among other things.
Participants then headed for the Old Town Square. They carried signs reading "We have enough of our own problems" and "Islamist terrorist go home".
Police did their best to ensure the demonstrators clear passage, but some counter-protesters did not obey police instructions. Several ended up in police vans.
People threw several eggs at Okamura as he led the procession, but did not manage to hit him. Hula said police arrested several people during five incidents related to the demonstration for failing to obey an officer’s instruction or disturbing public order.
The police did not give an exact number of who was arrested or what for. They did say that one person who threw an egg was fined.
Right now na Václaváku, slušní Češi mají připravené oprátky na imigranty a vlastizrádce. (Do davu se připletl Pavel Dobrovsky)
