Czech Deputy Public Defender of Rights discusses compensation procedure for forced sterilizations in interview for ROMEA TV
The victims of illegal sterilizations in the Czech Republic have achieved their goal. A law on providing one-off financial compensation to them has been adopted by both chambers of Parliament and signed by Czech President Miloš Zeman.
The process will begin as of 1 January 2022. The years-long battle by individuals and nonprofit organizations has been won.
ROMEA TV has interviewed Monika Šimůnková, the Deputy Public Defender of Rights, about what happens now. In the interview, which is subtitled into English, she discusses what will happen between now and January 2022, who can apply for compensation and how, and who will be assisting the victims of unlawful sterilizations with securing the necessary documentation.
