Czech court says police not responsible for death of Romani man
A court in Sokolov, Czech Republic, has acquitted the police officers who arrested a Romani man, Ľudovít Kašpar, in 2012, who subsequently died in hospital. The verdict will not be appealed.
The officers were acquitted of negligent homicide News server iDNES.cz reported last week that presiding Judge Milan Tomeš announced that the attempts by the prosecution to prove the incident took place as described in the indictment were unsuccessful.
The unfortunate incident happened on 5 May 2012, just before midnight, in the town of Kynšperk, Czech Republic. Mr Kašpar was arrested by police officers Pavel Herink and Vítězslav Novák.
Force was used to restrain Mr Kašpar during his arrest. He was hospitalized in Sokolov and subsequently died of brain swelling.
