Čeněk Růžička: Pig farm was privatized for CZK 3.5 million, now it's worth hundreds of millions more?

According to the chair of the Committee for the Redress of the Roma Holocaust (Výbor pro odškodnění romského holokaustu – VPORH), Čeněk Růžička, it is very good that archeological research has taken place at the site of the former concentration camp for Romani people at Lety u Písku. In an interview for Romea.cz, Růžička said he assumes people will now finally stop doubting whether the camp existed and that its exact position will be determined.

The archeological research was completed last week by a team under the direction of Pavel Vařeka from the Archeology Department at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. The research aimed to precisely locate the former camp and discover any artefacts remaining from the time it was in operation.

“This is all to the good. Perhaps we will finally exactly determine where the camp began and how far it extends into the grounds of the pig farm. I assume people will stop doubting the existence of the camp now,” Růžička told news server Romea.cz.

The research took place on just a small segment of the former camp because the vast majority of its area is located on the land of the pig farm, owned by the AGPI company. Those land owners did not allow the researchers to access their grounds and made research there impossible.

The research so far has confirmed that the vast majority of the former camp was located on the grounds of the land currently occupied by the pig farm. “The AGPI company bought the pig farm from the Praseček firm, which had purchased it from the local authority for CZK 3.5 million [EUR 134 000] and today they are talking about several hundreds of millions here. What is that about? Despite knowing what had happened here, they privatized it for CZK 3.5 million. That’s the mess of it. Somebody should be held accountable for that and the nation should hold responsible whoever sold it for CZK 3.5 million here, not us,” Růžička emotionally declared to news server Romea.cz.
