The Slovak police have started to prosecute unknown culprits who have
attacked Romanies in Revuca for the defamation of nation and race, police
spokeswoman Petra Babulicova told CTK today.
If found guilty, the culprits face five years in prison.
Three unknown men broke into a yard of a family house on Friday night. They
called the Romany inhabitants names and threatened them with death and arson.
The assaulters were also throwing stones into the windows and on the walls,
Babulicova added.
No one was injured during the incident.
This was one in a series of attacks aimed at Slovak Romanies in the past.
Amnesty International, monitoring the observance of human rights in the world,
criticised Slovakia over violent attacks on the Romany inhabitants in this year's
assessment report.
