Czech Police looking for man who gave the Nazi salute in the Prague metro
Police officers from a local station in the Vysočany quarter of Prague and detectives investigating extremism are working on the case of an aggressor who verbally assaulted his fellow passengers on the metro before giving the Nazi salute at the Kolbenova metro station. On Monday, 27 January at about 11:30 AM, the man reportedly shouted racial epithets at a tourist from France while riding in a metro car between the Vysočanská and Kolbenova stops.
The young man is said to have insulted the 37-year-old foreigner because of his skin color and to have even spit at two women who stood up for the victim. One of the women was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and the assailant reportedly jeered at her and ridiculed her in a very unscrupulous way.
The man exited at the Kolbenova station, where he continued to shout aggressively before raising his right arm and yelling a slogan that was typically used by the Nazi regime. Detectives consider this to be a case of someone giving the Nazi salute.
The foreigner and the two witnesses exited the metro and a 52-year-old woman called the police. Detectives suspect the unidentified young man of having committed gross indecency in public by racially abusing a foreigner because of his skin color; of publicly approving of genocide; and of showing sympathy with Nazism.
The man is therefore suspected of having committed the felony crime of rioting and of either approving of, casting doubt upon, denying or justifying genocide. For these actions he faces up to three years in prison should be be apprehended and convicted.
Police officers have video footage from the vestibule of the Kolbenova metro station available to them which shows the suspect exiting the metro car, shouting on his way out of it, giving the Nazi salute and then leaving. Officers therefore have an exact description of the aggressor and are asking members of the public for their help in discovering his identity.
The man is aged around 30, about 175 cm tall, and is in good physical shape. His head is shaved and he has a tattoo on the right side of his neck.
A significant element of his appearance are the large holes in his earlobes (so-called "stretched" earlobes). He was wearing blue jeans and a black coat without a hood which had some specific designs on the back.
Anyone with information about this aggressive man should call police on the toll-free line 158. Video footage of the incident is available at http://www.romea.cz/cz/zpravodajstvi/domaci/policie-hleda-muze-ktery-hajloval-v-prazskem-metru
